Ubud Guide: Restaurants
Bali has become a bit of a foodie destination, and Ubud is no exception. A weekend in Ubud is a perfect excuse to try some new eateries, so just in time for the Ubud Food Festival this weekend (April 26-28, 2019), we’ve created our Ubud guide to restaurants to give a rundown of some of our favourite restaurants to grab a nice dinner in Ubud.
Dumbo is one of our favourites at any time of the day, the best coffee in town reinvents itself as the best espresso martini in the evening, the “totally wired” cocktail is a must try! Topped off with excellent pizza, salads, homemade pasta and a fun, relaxed non-pretentious crowd it’s not surprising Dumbo is so popular in Ubud.
In a town where half the population are on honeymoon, it was hard to choose the best fine-dining with a view. Kubu is an experience from the moment you enter the Ritz Carlton. This place is perfect when you really want to impress, good space layout and lighting has allowed for intimacy within this regal bamboo structure. Degustation is expensive but the flavours are beautifully subtle and the service impeccable. We ain’t going every Friday, but it’s perfect for that special date.
The Ubud outpost from Bali’s popular Sarong Group, which rarely put a foot wrong. Open for lunch and dinner, expect their usual flavourful Asian menu, excellent cocktails, and attentive service.
Locavore is one of those fine dining restaurants everyone has got to try once. As the name indicates these guys are scrupulous about sourcing their produce locally. The degustation seems expensive but in reality, they bring you almost double the dishes to try. All are mouthwatering and interesting in both flavour and presentation. The cocktails are unbeatable also.
A cute little place that punches way above its weight in terms of food quality and consistency. Only a recent addition to the Ubud scene, but already a favourite for many “locals”. Daytime Asian sharing bites become pan-Asian comfort food in the evenings and it’s all so tasty that you can’t keep your chopsticks out of your friends’ dishes! To top it all off the cocktails and vibes are second to none.
Our favourite Mexican fare from the south now has an Ubud location. As well as our go-to for authentic Mexican, the Laca group is a reliable source of good margaritas and other cocktails. They also mix up a mean Bloody Mary to cure any Sunday sore heads.
